Senanis Sestina
Orangutan Snack
Delicate twig cradled by robust hand.
Hardness remains, solemnly missing soft leaves.
Penetrating darkness, pulling quarry to light.
Leaning close reduces the short distance.
Quickly moving, unable to remain still.
Seemingly weak, they possess relative strength.
Miniature might succumbs to maximal strength.
Running, oblivious to the guiding hand.
Graceful movement, unnoticed as water still.
Lips curling, lapping, before it leaves.
Twig empty, eyes fill with distance.
Heavy stare, twig’s weight is light.
Dark shadows devour the afternoon light.
Meager morsels building the day’s strength.
Others circling near while keeping distance.
Thoughts elsewhere, decision is at hand.
Arrival, one more bite, then leaves.
Chaotic rush away, but now still.
Pausing to glance behind, moving still.
Sinking fast then floating feather light.
Rigidly gripped branches sway, shaking leaves.
Brink of breaking testing their strength.
Foot grabbing, as though a hand.
Near conflict avoided, going the distance.
Seeing others but feeling the distance.
Group benefits, alone is better still.
Ruckus departure merely sleight of hand.
Evening quest before day’s ending light.
Frail tree’s crook provides supporting strength.
Tossing small, the large it leaves.
A lone nest among the leaves.
Recalling now taste from the distance.
Faint rays’ last bit of strength.
Night came fast, wind is still.
Nothing, the tenebrous sound of light.
Seeing, learning is giving a hand.
Flicking some leaves while laying still.
Distance from darkness by morning light.
Strength to return, twig in hand.
